About Wicked Lit

Wicked Lit debuted at Greystone Mansion in 2009 and ran for ten sold out years at Mountain View Mausoleum and Cemetery as an immersive event, garnering numerous Ovation Awards and Halloween accolades. In 2012, Unbound brought History Lit to Pasadena Museum of History, and in 2017, Mystery Lit was born at the Los Angeles County Arboretum. Over this time, Unbound Productions has debuted more than 40 world premiere adaptations and delighted more than 30,000 patrons. Nineteen plays originally produced and developed by Unbound are available for licensing from Concord Theatricals. We were dark from 2020-2025 but are thrilled to make a triumphant return at Chance Theater!

A note from the Producer

This show has been an incredible ride, and many years in the making! I’ve been involved with Chance Theater since 2007 when I was a company member and Literary Director, and I co-founded Unbound Productions in 2008 (along side Jeff G. Rack and Paul Millet). The two companies have been entwined for a long time as the first ever readings of Wicked Lit plays were held at the Chance in the previous space (The Monkey’s Paw, The Cask of Amontillado, and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow) and the Unbound-developed The Legend(s) of Sleepy Hollow debuted in Chance’s first-ever TYA season in 2015. In addition, the amount of artists who cross-over between the two companies is vast and deep. And since I’m also a Marketing Director and a Resident Artist of the Chance right now, bringing the two companies together had some pretty palpable synergy from the get-go.

But synergy or not, getting this show up (and getting the company restarted) has been no easy feet. It’s taken a village beyond those listed in the program to get every aspect of the production into its ideal place, and if not for the giving, patient, creative minds that help shape the vision for the show and uplift me when I struggled, we’d have none of this. So to everyone who had a hand in making Wicked Lit 2026 a reality, especially the staff at Chance Theater (Bebe, Masako, and Shinshin especially!), thank you from the very bottom of my heart.

– JJ (Writer/Director/Producer)

A close-up of a vintage brass door handle on a heavy wooden door marked “Stage Entrance” in peeling gold paint, set into an old stone mausoleum wall. The handle is wrapped with a thin strip of black cloth that trails down like a subtle, theatrical flourish. From the narrow gap beneath the door, a band of eerie green stage light spills out onto the cracked stone steps, cutting through a fine layer of drifting fog. The surrounding stone is textured, weather-stained, and partially overtaken by creeping ivy. Shot in photographic realism with a tight, off-center composition and shallow depth of field, the mood is bold, secretive, and enticing, suggesting a hidden world of immersive Halloween theatre just beyond the threshold.

Destiny Kast
(Scenic Designer)
Destiny is a Southern California–based scenic designer, artist, and educator. She was the Resident Scenic Designer for International City Theatre in Long Beach during its 2025 season. She is a member of the Art Directors Guild’s Production Design Initiative and received her MFA in Scenic Design from CSU-Fullerton in 2022.

An intricately detailed stack of classic horror books resting on an antique wooden trunk, each leather-bound spine embossed with gold titles like “Poe,” “Lovecraft,” and “Wicked Lit” in elegant typography. A black feather quill lies across the top book beside a vintage brass theatre mask half-hidden in shadow. The scene is set in a dim corridor lined with stone walls and faded theatre posters pinned crookedly in the background. Warm, low side lighting from an unseen lantern creates long, moody shadows and pools of light that draw the eye along the stack. Captured at eye level with a shallow depth of field in photographic realism, the atmosphere is intellectual, gothic, and boldly theatrical.

Harold Kast
(Associate Scenic Designer)
Harold works as a Technical Director and educator around Orange County. He hopes you enjoy the show!

James Markoski
(Sound Designer)
When James stepped foot into Chance Theater for the first time, summer of 2016, he had no clue how his life and his spare time was about to change. After working the audio mix that fateful summer on A Chorus Line, he has become a steadfast staple in that booth in the back. His credits at Chance Theater could fill a book, but the one that has left an impression and changed his life forever was the one he was not working on at the time, but the one where he met his soulmate. Thank goodness for Camryn and that matchmaking show that would forever match him with the one he sits in the booth in the back for every night…this show’s Stage Manager and his wife, Jordan. This show and all the shows are for her.

Morgan Montesi
(Assistant Stage Manager – Wicked Lit Museum)
